Laboratory
The vast majority of blood-work is processed the same day – providing fast and reliable results with a veterinary interpretation.
Endoscopy
Endoscopy
Using a portable fibre-optic endoscope, we are able to provide visualisation of areas of the equine body that are otherwise difficult to access. This includes the upper respiratory system, areas of the gastrointestinal tract, the urinary tract and the reproductive tract of mares.
Endoscopy is a crucial diagnostic tool for horses exhibiting poor performance and for the assessment of upper airway obstructions and abnormal respiratory noises, lung diseases, gastric ulcers, and UTI’s.

5 Stage Pre Purchase Examinations

The pre-purchase exam (PPE or vetting) is a thorough clinical examination of the horse on behalf of the prospective buyer to assess veterinary factors which may affect the horse’s suitability for its intended purpose.
At EVP we follow the standardised 5-stage procedure following outlines from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and BEVA. The vetting provides an assessment of the horse at the time of the examination to help the potential purchaser make an informed decision on the purchase. It is not a guarantee of the horse’s suitability for its intended purpose nor a safeguard against future ailments or injuries.
Shockwave therapy

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) has been employed as a treatment for orthopaedic conditions in humans for a number of years, It has now been developed for use in equine orthopaedics to treat conditions such as PSD (proximal Suspensory Desmitis), Collateral ligament injuries, navicular disease and sacroiliac injuries.
The machine emits high-intensity pressure waves, directed onto the injured area – stimulating and accelerating the healing process by stimulating blood flow and having an immediate anti-inflammatory, osteogenic (formation of bone) and painkilling effect. The portability of this machine means it can be used anywhere – and travels with Vasco to visits.
Shockwave therapy has been found to be particularly effective for injuries at the soft tissue-bone interface - areas that are often difficult to medicate, and unsuitable for surgery. The non-invasive and focused attributes of ESWT have therefore proved extremely valuable.
International Visits

Vasco splits his time between his clinics in the UK and Portugal, and regularly travels internationally to clients all over the world. From West Sussex, to Asia and beyond!
Veterinary support for high end competition horses

With over 15 years experience working with elite performance horses, and top-level teams across the globe, Vasco has developed a wealth of knowledge surrounding the care and management of high-performance sport horses and ponies, from Dressage and Driving horses, to Showjumpers and Eventers.
He formed part of the team working at the 2012 London Olympics, the 2018 Tryon WEG, was Team Vet at the 2013 World Driving Championships, and was Team Vet for the Portugese Dressage Team at the 2018 and 2019 FEI World Cups – amongst many other examples at the highest level.
At EVP we believe that teamwork is the key to success, and managing modern equine athletes is no different. Optimising the health fitness and performance of these horses requires working closely with riders, owners, trainers, and para-professionals – and understanding and balancing the demands of competition with routine assessments and treatments. We pride ourselves on our close and trusted working relationships with the teams we are proud to be a part of.
We understand that early detection of injury plays a vital part in giving the horse the best chance for recovery. Our expert equipment and experience is key in diagnosing and interpreting an injury – and its treatment and management for the ongoing wellbeing and performance of the horse.
Radiography

We carry a mobile digital radiography system – providing fantastic quality X-ray imaging on a computer screen in seconds. The high-quality images can be enlarged for more detailed inspection and assessment – acting as a crucial diagnostic tool. Images can be accurately and instantly compared to previous X-rays, stored for many years without deterioration in quality, and be quickly sent via email – for example to farriers, or referring vets.
Ultrasonography

Portable, powerful and versatile – the ultrasound scanner travels with Vasco to his visits and is invaluable as an imaging tool for assessing soft tissue structures. Providing outstanding image quality – it enables us to identify changes to the fibre pattern of tendons, ligaments and other soft tissue – and effectively employ ultrasonic imaging as a diagnostic tool.
